Wild East Rodungla Trek (17 Days)

Day – 1 Arrive paro airport. You will be received by our company representative and escorted to Thimphu. The drive to Thimphu takes about 2 hours. Overnight in hotel.
Day – 2 After an early lunch drive to Trongsa. The drive to Trongsa takes about 8 hrs. picnic lunch on the way.
Day – 3 After breakfast, visit the Trongsa Dzong and the Watch Tower and then drive to Bumthang. The drive to Bumthang takes about 2 hrs through some of the most scenic landscape in Bhutan.
Day – 4 Treks begins: Bumthang – Nganglakhang
The trek route takes you along the Chamkharchu, a river known for its richness in trout fish. After lunch stop at Thangbi Monastery, you enter the Ngang valley which weans “Swan valley” with its Nganglakhang (Swan Temple) in the center of the valley. It is said that in the past, this valley inhabited only by Swans. Overnight camp at Nganglakhang in tent.
Day – 5 Ngang Lhakhang – Ugyencholing
Climb gradually to Phephela pass at an alt of 11000 ft, the highest point on the trek. The trail from the pass takes you through one of the most beautiful forests of the region. You can also view the Ugyencholing Palace on the way. Overnight at Ugyencholing in tent. Alt 9000 ft. distance 12 kms and time 3-4 hours.
Day – 6 Ugyencholing – Phokpey
The trail takes you through forests of bamboo, hemlock and as you gradually climb up, through alpine forests until Phokpey. Overnight at Phokpey in tent. Alt. 11500 ft. distance 17 kms and time 5-6 hrs.
Day – 7 Phokpey – Ungar
You continue to climb upto Phokpeyla which takes about half an hour. From the pass, the trail goes downhill through the gorge to Ungar. The camp site at Ungar overlooks some beautiful mountain valleys and plains. Alt.10000 ft. Distance 20 kms and time 6-7 hrs.
Day – 8 Ungar – Taskila
The trail winds up and down through forest and villages. You also pass a Monastery called Khaine Lhakhang which is one of the oldest Monasteries in Bhutan, built sometime during the 7th century by King Songtsen Genpo of Tibet to subdue a demon. Alt.6000 ft. Distance 21 kms and time 6-7 hrs.
Day – 9 Taskila – Lhuntse
You drive upto Luntse and rest at the guest house or camp.
Day – 10 Lhuntse – Menji
Drive down to Kurizam and trek from there. The trail takes you through the paddy fields and villages. Overnight in tent at Menji. Alt.6000ft. distance 16 kms and time 4-5 hrs.
Day -11 Menji – Pemi
The trail takes you uphill through forest with glimpses of beautiful mountains. Overnight in tent at Pemi. Alt8000ft. distance 20 kms and time 6-7 hrs.
Day – 12 Pemi – Taupang
The trail continues upwards to Dongla pass. From the pass, you can see most of the high mountains. From there, you descend through the forest until you reach the camp site at Taupang. Alt.8000 ft. Distance 21 kms and time 6-7 hrs.
Day -13 Taupang – Yangtse
The last day of the trek and the longest one on this route. You climb down gradually till you reach Yangtse through Chirpine and hardwood forest. Overnight in tent at Yangtse. Distance 24 kms. Time 8-9 hrs.
Day -14 Tashi Yangtse – Trashigang
Drive down to Trashigang which takes about 3 hours. Halt in Trashigang in the hotel or drive onto Mongar which will take another 3 hours.
Day – 15 Trashigang/Mongar – Bumthang
The drive takes about 7-8 hours. Overnight in hotel/guest house.
Day – 16 Bumthang – Thimphu
Day – 17 Thimphu – Paro airport and departure.
